A Riverine Fisher's Experience

My name is Alfred, and I am a fish trader in a riverine community- Okibou-Zion where fishing is our main source of income. Before the Eja-lce cooling hub was installed, we lost a large part of our catch every day. Without cold storage, fish would begin to spoil within hours, especially during peak harvest periods. Many times, we were forced to sell cheaply or throw the fish away.

The Eja-lce solar-powered cooling hub changed this completely. Now, we can store our fish immediately after landing. This gives us time to aggregate our catch, wait for better prices, and transport fish to larger markets without spoilage.

Since using the cooling hub: Fish losses have reduced significantly. Our income is more stable and predictable. We sell better-quality fish and earn more per basket. The cooling hub has protected our hard work and strengthened our community's livelihoods. For us, solar cold storage means fewer losses, better prices, and a more secure future.

Creating Opportunity Close to Home

This job gave me skills, income, and confidence - right in my community. My name is Blessing, and I work at the Eja-lce cooling hub in Okibou-Zion community. Before this job, it was difficult to find stable work close to home. Most opportunities required traveling far or doing informal work with irregular income.

Working at the cooling hub has given me steady employment and valuable skills. I am responsible for monitoring the cold storage, recording product intake and release, and supporting traders who use the facility. This role has helped me develop confidence, responsibility, and technical experience with a regular income, I can support myself and contribute to my family.

The cooling hub has not only reduced food waste in our community, but it has also created opportunities for young women like me to earn a living and build a future.
